House Portraits by Elena Roche

House Portrait Commissions

This soft, dreamlike house portrait of the Harr Residence was the first commission that Elena Roché was asked to do in an area of art that was new to her: a house portrait.  But art is art and a portrait, even a house portrait, is fair game for her considerable and wide ranging talent.  This house drawing was executed in graphite and charcoal on museum board and was purposely kept soft to evoke a nostalgic atmosphere of that place of refuge where you are always welcome....home.

The Harrs asked us to assist in framing this house portrait.  We selected an off-white mat and a subtle silver-champagne gilt frame.  The combination of the soft whites and grays of the house drawing with the mat and frame was particularly striking, drawing the viewer in for a closer look.

The second time Elena Roché was approached to do a house portrait commission, this time a house drawing in colored pencil, she thought she might be on to something and decided to create a few web pages dedicated to this new area.

If you have succeeded in making a home of your house; if you have reached that magical point to where it's now the "home place", then perhaps it's time to immortalize the moment for generations to come and commission a house portrait.
