Kaffir Lily

The Kaffir Lily (Clivia miniata) is not a Lily, but rather a member of the Amaryllis family.  It is a native of South Africa and was brought to England where it was named for Lady Charlotte Clive, Duchess of Northumberland by naturalist John Lindley.  It is a popular house plant worldwide because of its ability to tolerate low light.  This Kaffir Lily was painted en plein air in the Southern California garden of Elena Roché.
