Channel Islands Harbor "Gray Day, Fisherman's Wharf, Oxnard" is a plein air oil painting of the view across the channel from the docks where the Roché family cutter, Farewell, is tied up. You are looking toward the North and across the East side of Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard, on an overcast Sunday afternoon in June, 2006. The wharf and the harbor are shrouded in a low, misty marine layer, locally called "June Gloom", but the hills in the distance are visible. The harbor will be dark in a couple of hours. The harbor taxi is tied up to the dock waiting for customers to arrive. The fishing boats that left before dawn have yet to return and the rest of the wharf is empty. This painting is an example of a Marine Painting, but could just as well be a Marine Painting Commission. If you have an architectural feature of your waterfront home, business, your yacht or a special ocean or beach view that you would like to preserve in a painting commission, this is an example of how it could be done. Marine Painting Commissions also make memorable gifts. To order click here.
