Landscape Painting by Elena Roche

Landscape Painting

This is a painting of the main building of the Flintridge Sacret Heart Academy in San Gabriel Mountains, California.  The building was part of a large hotel complex designed in 1926 by Myron Hunt and built in 1927 by Senator Frank Putnam Flint.  Due to its remote location and because of the Great Depression the Flintridge Hotel never succeeded as a resort.  In 1931 it was acquired by the Dominican Sisters of Mission San José and transformed into a boarding school.

In 1951 the school began to accept day students.  After surviving a decline in enrollment in the late 1960's and early 1970's, the school began to grow.  New buildings and facilities were added.  Currently the academy accommodates 400 students from the Los Angeles basin as well as from around the world.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy welcomes artists who wish to paint on campus.  The school also hosts fine art exhibitions and sales.

Best viewed four to five feet from the screen.
