Landscape Painting
This is a painting of a portion of the King Gillette Ranch House in Calabasas, California that was designed by Wallace Neff. The construction was supervised by Neff and was completed in 1929. That year marked the end of the Golden Age of Southern California architecture as the Great Depression set in. Gillette gave Neff a free hand in the design and construction of the residence while Gillette and his wife were abroad. Neff reported that when Gillette returned and saw his new house he was moved to tears. There is an excellent description and set of photos and plans of the Ranch House in the book Wallace Neff, Architect of California's Golden Age.
