Elena Roche » Meditation on the Theme of a House Finch

While studying academic art, composition, and art history in Moscow, I felt a connection to the Art Nouveau Style as if whose shapes, proportions, and designs were pulled from the depths of my dreams, the dreams I couldn't quite remember or explain in words once awakened but could only feel the effects of.  In this original drawing, I combined a realistic drawing of a House Finch with designs inspired by Art Nouveau to create a romantic dream-like mystique about this bird and its home, El Refugio.

This artwork was awarded Best Drawing & Sketch in February Plein Air Salon by PleinAir Magazine

Most of the time I sketch and paint the birds by just looking out of my windows where they come to our feeders, fountain, and trees. After the Palisades Fire in May of 2021, we had a sharp increase in the bird population. I had to purchase larger capacity bird feeders and a lot more bird food. All that doesn't come cheap. Thus, all the proceeds from sales of these drawings will benefit the wildlife as in purchases of bird food and providing and maintaining water supply and green trees for shelter.

This video shows the process of how this drawing was created. It is very relaxing as well.
